Digital loyalty cards in Guadalajara: branches, daily bread and stamps
In short: in Guadalajara the challenge for a stamp card is that the city is split across several municipalities and many businesses have more than one location. Zapopan is the most populous municipality in Jalisco, with 1,476,491 residents according to INEGI's 2020 Census. If your customer buys at one branch and then at another, the card has to be the same in both. For everyday purchases, like afternoon bread, a 10-stamp card with a reward the customer already buys works well. With one QR per branch you see where each stamp is earned.
This guide is for bakeries, coffee shops and counter businesses in the metro area: Guadalajara, Zapopan, Tlaquepaque, Tonalá and neighboring municipalities. For the country-wide picture, start with the Mexico guide.
The local problem: one city, several municipalities
To the customer, Guadalajara is one city. They live in Zapopan, work downtown and eat in Tlaquepaque on Sundays. To the business, each location is its own world. A paper card stays at the shop that handed it out, and the one in the wallet gets lost.
This happens most with bakeries and coffee shops that opened a second or third branch in another municipality. The same customer fills half a card at each shop and never finishes one. A digital card fixes that if it does two things:
- One card for every branch. The customer sees their stamps on their phone, wherever they buy.
- A different QR at each location. That way you know which branch brings people back and which doesn't.
In Mexico 72% of phones run Android (StatCounter, September 2026), so most of your customers can save the card in Google Wallet without downloading an app.
How many stamps, based on how people buy
The right length depends on how often the customer comes back. Guadalajara counter businesses tend to follow three patterns:
| Type of business (hypothetical example) | How the customer buys | Suggested stamps | Suggested reward |
|---|---|---|---|
| Neighborhood bakery in Tlaquepaque | Afternoon bread, almost daily, low ticket | 10 | A bag of house bread |
| Specialty coffee shop in Zapopan, near offices | Morning coffee, Monday to Friday | 8 | A coffee in their usual size |
| Bakery with three branches in the metro area | Family weekend purchase | 6 | A large item, such as a rosca or a small cake |
All three are examples for thinking through the design, not real businesses. Use your own sales to adjust: if almost nobody reaches the reward in two months, the card is too long.
Why a familiar reward works better
At an everyday bakery, the customer already knows what they like. A reward they already buy has a clear value to them and a low cost to you. A new product as a reward sounds appealing, but the customer doesn't know what it's worth and chases it less. The bakery guide has more reward ideas for bread.
Example: a bakery with branches in two municipalities
Picture a hypothetical bakery with one shop in Guadalajara and another in Zapopan. Today it hands out different paper cards at each. With a digital card the change looks like this:
- The customer scans the QR at the Zapopan shop and joins with Google or their email.
- That afternoon they buy in Guadalajara and scan that shop's QR. The stamp lands on the same card.
- The next day they're back in Zapopan. They earn another stamp, because it's another day.
- In the dashboard you see that 70% of stamps come from the Zapopan shop (a figure from the example, not measured data) and decide where to put more signs.
The one stamp per member per day rule matters here. Without it, someone who stops at two branches in the same afternoon would get two stamps for a single bread purchase.
Reviews: what people who don't know you look for
Someone who moves to another neighborhood or visits the city often looks up bakeries and cafés on Google Maps before walking in. A new review helps them find you. With Club Card you can give 5 stamps for a Google Maps review and 2 for a TripAdvisor review, once each. The stamp is for leaving the review, not for it being good: that respects the platforms' rules and doesn't ask the customer to lie.
Your customers' data
If you store your members' name, email or birthday, Mexico's federal personal data law requires a privacy notice. The Mexico guide explains what to include. This is not legal advice.
Guadalajara compared with other cities
Each large Mexican city needs a different adjustment. In Guadalajara it's the network of branches across municipalities. In Monterrey the car and the quick stop matter more. In Mexico City the office rhythm means an 8 to 10 stamp card fills up fast.

Frequently asked questions
Does one card work if I have shops in Guadalajara and Zapopan?
Yes. The customer uses the same card at all your branches and each shop has its own QR, so the dashboard shows where each stamp comes from.
How many stamps for an everyday bakery?
About 10, with a reward the customer already buys, like a bag of bread. If nobody gets there in two months, shorten it.
What if the customer buys at two branches on the same day?
They earn one stamp. The one stamp per member per day rule keeps a single purchase from counting twice.
Do my customers need to download an app?
No. On Android the card is saved in Google Wallet and on iPhone it opens in the browser.
