Juice bar loyalty program: stamps, combos and the morning rush
In short: a juice bar sells a low ticket very often, so it does well with a card of 8 to 10 stamps and a reward the customer already orders, like a small juice or a simple smoothie. The simplest rule is one stamp per visit and per day. The morning is the strong moment, and that is where the program is won or lost: the QR in view of the line and a breakfast combo that earns a stamp. What pays off most is messaging members who stopped coming.
Club Card's card, counter app, dashboard and signup are in Spanish only.
A juice bar is like a coffee shop in one way: the loyal customer comes several times a week, sometimes every day. It differs in others: the menu changes with seasonal fruit, many sales are to go and almost everything happens in a few morning hours. This guide covers the format, the number of stamps, the reward, combos, the rush hour and the numbers worth watching. If your business is more about coffee, see the coffee shops guide.
Which format to choose
| Format | Advantage in a juice bar | Risk |
|---|---|---|
| Stamps per visit | Explained in one sentence with a line waiting | Rewards a small juice the same as a full breakfast |
| Stamps per product | Rewards the customer who orders for the office | An order of five juices fills the card at once |
| Points by amount | Fair if you also sell food | Hard to explain at 8 in the morning |
For most counter juice bars, a stamp per visit is the starting point. It's what the cashier can apply without thinking while squeezing oranges. If you sell a lot to go for offices, you can add a separate rule, for example an extra stamp on orders of four juices or more.
How many stamps to ask for
The useful question is how often your regular customer comes back. In a juice bar that pace tends to be high, which is why the card can be a bit longer than in an ice cream shop.
An example with hypothetical numbers: a customer who stops by three times a week completes 9 stamps in three weeks. One who comes once a week takes more than two months with the same card. If your crowd is mixed, an 8-stamp card keeps both happy.
The Kivetz, Urminsky and Zheng study of a coffee card showed that customers speed up their visits when they see the reward close (Journal of Marketing Research, 2006). In a daily-purchase business this shows quickly: the last stamps come in fewer days than the first ones.
What reward to give
The reward should be something the customer already buys and that costs you little. Work it out by cost, not by menu price.
An example with hypothetical numbers: a small orange juice sells for 45 pesos and costs you 15. With 9 stamps, the customer spent about 400 pesos and you give back something that costs you 15. A large protein smoothie can cost you three times as much without the customer valuing it much more.
Other options that tend to work:
- The next size up at no charge.
- A free extra: oats, granola, chia or a ginger shot.
- The seasonal juice of the month, which also helps you move the fruit you have.
Avoid cash rewards or general discounts. A free juice brings the customer back; a 10% discount gets forgotten.
Combos and breakfast
Many juice bars also sell molletes, sandwiches, cut fruit or bowls. The combo is a good place for the program because it raises the ticket without changing the rule.
- The combo earns one stamp, like any visit. No need to complicate the rule.
- Double stamp on the combo, for a limited time. Useful to get customers who only order juice to try the food.
- A combo reward for the full card, if your margin allows it: the free juice with a pastry.
Nunes and Drèze showed that a card that starts with free stamps gets completed more often and faster than a short card with no head start (Journal of Consumer Research, 2006). Giving the first stamp on signup helps the new member come back the next day.
The morning rush
Between 7 and 10 a good share of many juice bars' sales comes in. In that window nobody has time to explain anything.
- The QR in the line, not just at the register. Customers join while they wait for their juice.
- A line for the staff: "Scan the QR and get your first stamp today."
- The stamp at handoff, not at payment. While the order is blending there are a few free seconds.
- One stamp per member per day. Club Card applies it on its own, so the cashier doesn't have to keep count.
If you have more than one location, each has its own QR and the dashboard shows which one adds the most members.
Seasonal fruit
A juice bar's menu changes with what's at the market. That gives real reasons to message members: mango is in, guava is back, there's a new green juice. For members who agreed to receive messages, a note like that works better than a generic promotion, because it has a concrete reason.
Stamps for reviews
With Club Card you can give 5 extra stamps when a member posts their review on Google Maps and 2 for their review on TripAdvisor, once each. Staff add them after seeing the published review. Each platform has its own rules on reviews; you decide whether to turn it on.
What to measure
- New members per week and at which location they join.
- Members who return within 7 and 30 days of their first visit. In a juice bar, the first week already says a lot.
- Dormant members, those who haven't come in for three weeks or more. For a daily customer, three weeks is a long time.
- Completed cards over cards started.
How Club Card handles it
Club Card builds your juice bar's stamp card with your logo and colors. The customer scans the QR, joins with Google or email and saves it to Google Wallet on Android; on iPhone they use it in the browser with their code. Staff add the stamp by scanning the code with the shop's phone. The dashboard shows active members, dormant members and who comes back, and the CRM stores each member's data. We do the setup. It costs USD 39 a month, with no setup fee and no contract. See pricing, how it works or the Mexico guide. If you're in the capital, also read the Mexico City guide.
Frequently asked questions
How many stamps should a juice bar card have?
Between 8 and 10 usually works, because the loyal customer comes several times a week. If your customers come once a week, go down to 8.
What reward works best in a juice bar?
A small juice, a simple smoothie or the next size up. Something the customer already orders and that costs you little to make.
Can a customer earn two stamps if they come twice the same day?
No. Club Card gives one stamp per member per day, so a big order or two visits in a row don't fill the card.
Does it work on iPhone?
Yes, in the browser with their code. On Android the card is saved to Google Wallet.
