Digital stamp card in Salta: one rule for the tourist and another for the local
In short: in the city of Salta many downtown shops serve two different customers at the same counter. The tourist comes once or twice and leaves; the local comes back every week. A long stamp card is useless to the tourist, and a short one gives too much away to the local. The answer is a card designed for the customer who returns, plus stamps for reviews on Google Maps and TripAdvisor so the visitor leaves something useful before going.
This guide is for coffee shops, bakeries and restaurants in Salta. The business examples are hypothetical. For the national picture, see the Argentina guide.
Salta's problem: two customers in the same line
Downtown Salta gets visitors from all over the country and abroad. A café near the main square can have, in the same hour, a couple who arrived yesterday and a local who has ordered the same thing for years. These are general observations, not a measurement of the city's tourism.
The two want different things. The local wants to feel their loyalty counts. The tourist won't complete any card, but they do check Google Maps before walking into a place. What the tourist can give you is a review that brings in the next visitor.
How to solve it with a single card
You don't need a program for each. One card serves both if you combine two rules:
- Stamps per visit for the local. One stamp per day and a reward that takes consistency.
- Stamps per review for the visitor. In Club Card, a Google Maps review adds 5 stamps and a TripAdvisor review adds 2, once each.
That way, the tourist who joins and leaves a review starts with a good part of the card done. If they come back before leaving the city, they can reach the reward. If they don't, they still left you a review.
Watch one detail: the stamp is for leaving a review, not for leaving a good one. Asking only for positive reviews goes against Google Maps content policies. Ask them to describe their experience, whatever it was.
Three hypothetical examples
Café near the main square. Half tourists, half downtown office workers. Suggested rule: 10 stamps, reward a coffee with something sweet. The review stamps put the visitor halfway there from day one.
Neighborhood bakery away from downtown. Hardly gets any tourists. Suggested rule: 8 stamps, reward a dozen bread rolls. The review stamps still help, because locals search on Google Maps too.
Regional food restaurant. The tourist comes once; people from Salta come to celebrate. Suggested rule: 6 stamps per visit, reward a dessert or a starter to share. TripAdvisor reviews carry more weight here than at a café.
| Hypothetical business | Stamps | Reward | Customer type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Café near the square | 10 | Coffee with something sweet | Tourist and office worker |
| Neighborhood bakery | 8 | A dozen bread rolls | Local |
| Regional restaurant | 6 | Dessert or starter | Tourist and local celebrations |
High season and low season
In a tourist city, business shifts with the holidays and long weekends. When there are more visitors, the register staff has less time, so the line to offer the club has to be short: "Want to join the club? If you leave us a review, you start with stamps."
In low season the locals remain. That's the time to open the dashboard, see who comes often and who stopped coming, and write only to those who agreed to receive messages.
Visitors' phones
Many visitors from other provinces use Android: in Argentina 87% of phones run that system (StatCounter). They save the card to Google Wallet. A visitor with an iPhone uses it from the browser with its code, without installing anything.
Data and permissions
If you keep your members' data, Law 25.326 applies. Explain what you use it for, ask for separate permission for promotions and offer a simple way to opt out. This is not legal advice.
Salta compared with other cities
Tucumán is nearby and has the real case of a bakery with two locations. If your business is a café, the coffee shop guide has reward ideas. If it's a restaurant, see the restaurant guide.
Club Card in Salta
Club Card is a digital stamp card with your business's brand, set up by our team. It includes a CRM with each member's data, a dashboard for the owner, a QR per location and stamps for reviews on Google Maps and TripAdvisor. The customer saves it to Google Wallet; on iPhone they use it from the browser. It costs USD 39 a month, with no setup fee and no lock in. See pricing or sign up.
Frequently asked questions
Does a stamp card work if half my customers are tourists?
Yes, if you design it for the local and add review stamps for the visitor. The tourist may not reach the reward, but they can leave you a review.
How many stamps does a review give?
In Club Card, 5 for a Google Maps review and 2 for a TripAdvisor review, once each.
Can I ask only for five star reviews?
No. Ask them to describe their experience. Rewarding only positive reviews goes against Google Maps rules.
Does the tourist have to install an app?
No. They scan the QR and save the card to Google Wallet, or use it in the browser if they have an iPhone.
