Digital loyalty card in Cancún: Hotel Zone, downtown and the supermanzanas
In short: Cancún holds two markets in one city: the tourist who stays a few days in the Hotel Zone and the resident who lives and works downtown and in the supermanzanas. A stamp card pays off more with people who live here, because they can come back every week. For visitors, a short card works better. Where your shop sits decides which group matters more, and that decides how many stamps to ask for.
This guide is for cafés, bakeries, ice cream shops, neverías and counter businesses in Cancún. It goes from the general, who buys in each zone, to the specific: stamps, reward and launch. Club Card's card, dashboard and signup are in Spanish only.
Two cities in one
Cancún is usually thought of as a beach destination, but it is also a city where thousands of people go to work, to school and to the supermarket every day. Many people who work in hotels and restaurants live far from the Hotel Zone and spend their daily lives downtown or in the supermanzanas.
For a stamp program, that difference matters more than the size of the city. A card works when the customer has a reason to come back soon. The resident has one: your shop is on the way to work. The tourist may come three times in a week and never return.
The usual mistake is copying another business without looking at who buys at your own counter.
Who buys in each zone
| Zone | Who buys | Which card fits |
|---|---|---|
| Hotel Zone | Tourists staying a few days and staff in the area | Short: 5 or 6 stamps |
| Downtown and Avenida Tulum | Office workers, residents and passing visitors | Medium: 6 to 8 stamps |
| Supermanzanas and neighborhoods | Neighbors, families and hotel staff on their day off | Regular: 8 to 10 stamps |
These are general observations to guide the design, not measurements. Every shop is different: for two weeks, note how many customers you recognize and how many you see for the first time.
How many stamps and what reward
Start with frequency. If your regular comes twice a week, an 8-stamp card fills up in a month. If they come once a week, it takes two months, and it is better to drop to 6.
The reward should be something customers already buy and that costs you little. A coffee, a sweet roll or a paleta can be explained in one sentence at the register. Work out the reward by what it costs you, not by its menu price.
With the heat and outdoor life, cold drinks, ice cream and paletas sell almost all year. If that is your business, see the ice cream shop guide too.
iPhone and language
In Mexico 28% of phones run iOS (StatCounter, September 2026). In an area with many foreign visitors, your counter may have a higher share. There is no public figure for Cancún, so count it yourself for a week.
With Club Card, Android customers save the card in Google Wallet, which works in Mexico. iPhone customers use it in the browser with their code. Apple Wallet is coming soon, at no extra cost.
Language is the other point. The card and the dashboard are in Spanish. If a lot of English is spoken at your counter, keep a short line handy for your staff, for example: "Scan this to get a free coffee after 6 visits."
Three business examples (hypothetical)
All three are made-up examples to show decisions, not real businesses.
A café in the Hotel Zone. Almost all its customers are passing through. A 5-stamp card and a coffee as the reward. Coming almost daily during their week, the visitor gets the coffee.
A bakery in a supermanzana. It sells to the same families every day. An 8-stamp card and a sweet roll as the reward. The dashboard shows who stopped coming, so you can invite them back if they agreed to receive promotions.
A nevería downtown. Low ticket and many locals after work. A 6-stamp card and a paleta as the reward.

Frequently asked questions
Does a stamp card work in the Hotel Zone?
Yes, if it is short. With 5 or 6 stamps, a visitor who comes almost daily during their week can finish it.
How many stamps work best in the supermanzanas?
Between 8 and 10 is usually reasonable if the customer comes several times a week. Work it out from your regular customer's real frequency.
Can my iPhone customers use it?
Yes, in the browser with their code. Apple Wallet is coming soon, at no extra cost.
Is the card in English?
No. Club Card is in Spanish. For English-speaking customers, a short line next to the QR and a sentence from your staff help.
